BioQuest is an innovative philanthropic NGO focused on biodiversity conservation using genomics, starting with the Caribbean’s signature species. Our aim is to create local biodiversity genetic research capacity whilst preserving our unique environment for generations to come.
BioQuest’s mission is to enable citizen scientists to study species close to home, instead of sending samples to centralised, often overseas, locations for sequencing. Using the latest long-read sequencing technology, we work together to improve and guide genomic conservation efforts previously thought unthinkable.
We are fully committed to sample and data sovereignty, ensuring science equity in previously underrepresented regions for sustainable natural resource management. With our partners, BioQuest is focusing on showcasing the impact of genomics by producing high quality de novo draft assemblies of genomes with follow-on population studies to support the conservation of as many species as possible.
We are Unravelling the Secrets of Nature & Decoding Nature's Mysteries
BioQuest addresses fundamental questions in plant and animal biology. From exploring the overall health of a population to improving the success of breeding, Our research sheds light on the intricate workings of nature’s diverse life forms. See some of our exciting case studies with lasting impact on saving our world.

Powering BioQuest with the Caribbean's only ONT Certified Sequencing Service
At BioQuest, we’re proud to house the Caribbean’s first Oxford Nanopore Technologies (ONT) PromethION – a leap forward in the region’s genomics research capabilities. This state-of-the-art long-read sequencing platform allows us to generate reference genome data and large-scale genomic population studies with ease, speed and precision. This technology is not just a tool; it’s a gateway to groundbreaking discoveries in biodiversity conservation.
We are thrilled to be the Caribbean regional partner for ORG.one, a project supported by ONT, whose goal is to support rapid sequencing of any critically endangered species, anywhere, by anyone. With this partnership, BioQuest can support those interested in wanting to create a draft reference genome close to home. Support includes collaborative project design, onsite training, reagent supply and technical support.
Join us in our journey to explore, understand, and protect the delicate balance of life on Earth.
Through strategic partnerships we preserve our environment together. Support from our partners allows us to not only deliver on our conservation genomics goals but also facilitates local capacity training, education opportunities, and community engagement.
